Since today our mode of transportation is a little more advanced, isn\u2019t it more likely that he will arrive in a limo?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Messiah Arriving on a Donkey, or in a Mercedes? - Ask The Rabbi Live with Rabbi Mintz\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wnKB3puDOw4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Rabbi Chaim Mintz responds:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More than Just a Donkey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As the saying goes, \u201chistory repeats itself.\u201d This donkey is no simple donkey. We are told that <em>Mashiach <\/em>will actually arrive on the very same donkey Abraham rode on his way to bringing Isaac as an offering, and that Moses rode from Midian back to Egypt on his mission to save the Jewish people. The future redemption is the final link in the chain of the great events that occurred in our rich history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why a Donkey?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Although we don\u2019t know the exact details of how these future events will occur, there is an important concept expressed in this image of <em>Mashiach <\/em>riding on a donkey. The word for donkey in Hebrew is <em>chamor<\/em>, from the same root as the word <em>chomriyus<\/em>, materialism, which indicates physicality. A donkey is called a <em>chamor<\/em> because it is a physical, workday animal \u2014 the prototype of something purely materialistic, and the antithesis of spirituality and holiness. Abraham rode atop a donkey, symbolizing that he was \u201cmind over matter\u201d \u2014 the master of his physicality. It was not his materialistic aspect that directed him, but rather his spiritual element that was in charge. In the same vein, Moshe Rabbeinu (Moses) rode on this donkey to take the Jews out of Egypt, signaling the triumph of the Jews, the spiritual nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dawn of a New Era<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking this to the next level, <em>Mashiach\u2019s <\/em>arrival on a donkey symbolizes that he will be ushering in a whole new era. The entire world will be elevated to a higher plane of living, the state that Abraham reached on his way to doing God\u2019s will by being prepared to offer his son. We will rise above our materialistic existence and our soul will take charge. Our drive will be toward Torah, prayer, and closeness to God.
