The Torah shows us that these &#8220;coincidences&#8221; aren\u2019t coincidences at all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Plot of Balak and Bilaam<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s so important to internalize that Hashem always knows what is best for us and is constantly arranging events for our benefit, even when we\u2019re completely unaware. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torahmates.org\/jewish-resources\/parshat-balak-fulfilling-gods-will-do-you-really-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Parshat\u202fBalak<\/a> offers one of the clearest examples of this idea, in the episode of Balak and Bilaam. While the Jewish people were simply going about their day, unaware of any threat, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torahmates.org\/jewish-resources\/parshat-balak-take-the-hint\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Balak and Bilaam schemed to unleash a curse<\/a> upon the Jews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And these curses weren\u2019t empty words\u2014Chazal teach that Bilaam possessed the ability to identify the exact split second when Hashem expresses anger each day and to unleash his curse at that moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Miracle of Withheld Anger<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>But Hashem, in His infinite compassion, withheld His anger entirely during that period, specifically to protect Klal Yisrael. This was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torahmates.org\/jewish-resources\/parshat-chukat-the-serpent-and-the-gift-of-every-moment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">silent miracle<\/a>\u2014one that happened far away, unnoticed, and completely hidden from those it was meant to save.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hashem\u2019s Hidden Love<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Remarkably, Bilaam himself ended up praising this very relationship between Hashem and His people. \u201cHashem his God is with him, and the friendship of the King is in him\u201d (Bamidbar <a href=\"https:\/\/library.alhatorah.org\/?r1=Bemidbar_23:21&amp;s1=2&amp;r2=Rashi_Bemidbar_23:21&amp;s2=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">23:21<\/a>, as explained by Rashi). A true friend is someone who steps in to help, often without being asked and without taking credit. Hashem is that loyal friend, always intervening behind the scenes, ensuring our safety without demanding recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bilaam further declared, \u201cHe perceived no iniquity in Yaakov.\u201d According to the Shach (Al HaTorah), this points to another essential aspect of Hashem\u2019s love: His focus is not on our failures, but on our virtues. While we may be aware of our shortcomings, Hashem lovingly sees our potential and goodness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chassid Yaavetz writes that there is no other parashah in the entire Torah that reveals Hashem\u2019s love for us as clearly as Parshas Balak. The prophet Michah even tells us to remember this story\u2014to recall the attempted curses and how Hashem transformed them into blessings\u2014as a reminder that Hashem is always saving us, even when we have no idea what danger we were in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cultivating Gratitude for the Unseen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In truth, there are so many moments in life when we are protected or rescued from harm without even realizing. Of course, it\u2019s difficult to feel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torahmates.org\/jewish-resources\/celebrating-the-fourth-of-july\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gratitude<\/a> for what we don\u2019t know, but we can cultivate an appreciation for the fact that Hashem is always watching over us, always doing what\u2019s best for us\u2014 even when we can\u2019t see the full picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.torahmates.org\/jewish-resources\/the-loyal-servant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">David HaMelech<\/a> (King David) expressed this mindset so beautifully in Tehillim (<a href=\"https:\/\/library.alhatorah.org\/?r1=Tehillim_131:2&amp;s1=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">131:2<\/a>), describing himself like a baby in his mother\u2019s arms. A child doesn\u2019t understand what\u2019s happening, but he feels safe and secure in loving hands. So too, we often don\u2019t understand how or why things happen, but we can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torahmates.org\/jewish-resources\/feeling-connected-to-god-at-all-times\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">trust that Hashem is guiding everything<\/a> with love and care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.torahmates.org\/jewish-resources\/end-of-times\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">When Mashiach arrives<\/a>, all of this will become clear. We\u2019ll look back and see every salvation, every hidden kindness. Not only will we recognize it\u2014but even the nations of the world will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Modern-Day Visual Reminder<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Rabbi Yitzchak Zilberstein once shared a powerful story that brings this idea into real life. He visited a great <em>talmid chacham<\/em> (Torah Scholar) and was surprised to see an entire wall in his study covered with newspaper clippings. Each article reported on some kind of salvation\u2014terror attacks that were prevented, rockets that landed with no injuries. All of these were from just one month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rabbi explained that while he used to feel grateful when he heard of such miracles, those feelings would fade over time. He decided to make a permanent visual reminder\u2014by collecting and displaying these articles on his wall\u2014so he would never forget the ongoing kindnesses of Hashem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This story reminds us that even today, we are surrounded by countless hidden salvations.
