Should I do that too?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a beautiful thing to do and may have a very positive effect on your child! Many parents bring their young boys to the homes of their <em>rabbanim <\/em>(rabbis) on the day of their Upsherin. The Rabbi offers his blessing to the young child that he may grow up in the right way! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is also customary among many <em>rabbanim <\/em>to cut off some hair with a scissor. This is a tradition that has been around for many generations and is more common within Chasidic circles. Bringing the child to <em>talmidei chachamim <\/em>(Torah scholars) and <em>tzaddikim <\/em>(righteous people) can have an everlasting influence on him!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The positive effect of this visit is in a few ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The rabbi can bless the child to grow up in the ways of God, the study of His Torah and observance of His mitzvot.<sup>1<\/sup><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>According to Chassidic tradition, including these holy people in the first haircut will impart holiness into the young soul!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In addition, the experience of the young boy\u2019s interaction with these men of stature may remain etched in his heart forever!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Chassidic sources<sup>2<\/sup> bring down that the parents of<a href=\"https:\/\/asknoah.org\/essay\/rabbi-shneur-zalman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi<\/a>, (better known as the Baal Hatanya and the first Rebbe of Chabad) brought him on his third birthday to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org\/rabbi-yisrael-baal-shem-tov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rabbi Yisroel Bal Shem Tov<\/a> (founding master of the Chasidic movement), who cut some of his hair.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a id=\"_msocom_1\"><\/a>>> Read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torahmates.org\/jewish-resources\/upsherin-part-4-understanding-the-mitzvah-of-peot-sidelocks\/\">Upsherin Part 4: The Mitzvah of Pe&#8217;ot<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torahmates.org\/jewish-resources\/upsherin-part-6-the-upsherin-education\/\">Upsherin Part 6: The Upsherin Education<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button aligncenter tm-cta\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\">Learn more about the impact of the Upsherin day with a weekly study partner.
