Parshat Kedoshim is one of the rare occasions where Hashem speaks directly to the Jewish people, signifying a special importance. Here we learn that as Hashem\u2019s chosen people, we are expected to live by a higher standard of conduct compared to other nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Be Holy, Not Showy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">Parshat Kedoshim, a testimony\nWhen G-d did not speak to Moshe solely,\n\nRather he spoke to all Israel only,\nSo that they should listen to G-d closely:\n\n\"You should be holy, because I am holy,\"\nAni Adonai,\" the one and only.\n\nThere was a man who was rich and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org\/humility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">showy<\/a>.\nWas not G-d fearing, he was unholy.\n\nHis behavior lacked all sanctimony,\nUnwilling to spend, much parsimony.\n\nShabbat? No Kiddush, no ceremony.\nKeep kosher? Tefillin? Not remotely.\n\nThe gates of his farm, he would guard closely.\nBlock poor from entering, like a goalie.\n\nPauper forages for food morosely.\nBelieves in Torah, but he was lonely.\n\nHe saw the rich man, he was quite nosy.\n\"In the next Parsha, learn to be holy!\"\n\nSo rich man agreed, and read it slowly.\nThen said to himself: \"I must be holy!\"\n\nG-d decrees to us \"You should act nobly.\nDon't reap field's corners,\" even if moldy.\n\nSo that the poor can glean fields jocosely.\nObligation that shall make you holy.\n\nWith his wheat, pauper makes macaroni.\nRich man now shares his cheese ravioli.\n\nLearn from Parsha Kedoshim: be holy!\nTo join with Hashem in matrimony.\n\n<em>Ronen Khordipour makes Torah wisdom accessible to a wide Jewish audience through simple rhyming poetry.
