This is the ninth part of our series on shmiras halashon by Mrs. Tova Younger.

Out and about? Beware! Lingering in an area where many people in your circle pass by and beginning a conversation often leads others to join. As the crowd grows, chances are good that lashon hara (prohibited slanderous speech) will be spoken. Watch out! You are considered to have started it. It’s wonderful to greet others, but public areas aren’t the place for lengthy conversations.
