My son is soon turning three. What do I need to prepare for his first haircut?
In order to properly prepare for your son’s Chalakah/Upsherin ceremony, be sure to:
- Arrange for a Jewish barber. The barber must be aware of the Mitzvah of pe’ot and its guidelines.
- Buy him a pair of tzitzit. (They can be purchased at your local Judaica store.)
- Buy him a kippah (Jewish head covering).
- Prepare your child by teaching him about the mitzvot of pe’ot, tzizit and wearing a kippah. Be sure to instill in him Jewish pride as he matures as a Jewish boy and observer of Mitzvot!
- Prepare delicacies to be enjoyed by young and old!
- Invite family and friends!
- Be sure to be in a joyous mood and enjoy the nachat!
- Contact your local cheder (Jewish boys’ school) and request an appointment with a Rebbi (Jewish teacher) to teach your son the Aleph-Bet.
